Washington DC Day One

Love this monument!!
What a fantastic day we had in our nation's capital!! We did some of the big monuments and buildings today. First was Lincoln and Washington Monuments, then the Supreme Court and finished with the Capital building. Along the way we saw all of the other things we are hoping to go back to see in the next few days...the White House and as many of the Smithsonian's as we can fit in!! It was really hot and humid and we estimated that we all walked about 5 miles today (and that's ALOT for little Lila to keep up with) so by the end of the day we were so happy to get on the Metrorail and bus to get us home. Chile con carne was waiting for us in the crock pot when we arrived and I don't know when frito pie ever tasted soooooo good!! Tomorrow we get to look forward to a tour of the Pentagon, thanks to our neighbor and friend Tony for helping to get it arranged for us :-)). Perhaps we can also work in the Museum of Air and Space early in the morning? As I close, just want to wish a Happy Birthday to John's mom Nana (aka Deanna)...we love and miss you sweet lady! Blessings from the Lioness and her pride!

Great picture from the inside of the monument!

Sweet children standing outside of Lincoln and Washington in the background. Sadly, the reflection pool was being repaired so there was no water in it :-(

Capital Building

Can anyone guess which President this is?!

The "underbelly" of the Capital...those pillars hold up the entire, circular rotunda you see from the outside. Also, if you look closely, you can see a white circle in the center of the room on the floor...this is the center point of the entire DC area. Pretty cool, I thought!

Our last picture of the day! It was a GREAT day!!
