Smithsonian Museum of Art

At least I have heard of this artist...Rembrandt (spelling may not be right, I'm sure!)
I will be the first to admit that I know nothing about art and I'm not a huge fan of art and I'm definately NOT artistic, but we did make a trip to the museum of art and I actually enjoyed it. The building itself was beautiful and I LOVE the quiet whispers of voices of the observers (especially my own children) and the peaceful feeling I get when I enter an art museum. I'm not sure Paige, Luke or Lila liked the art museum, but the rest of us did. They much preferred the Museum of Natural History!! (But then again, so did I!!) Here are a few things that I liked from the art museum... We came home from DC and did our school, so we had a pretty full, but fun, day! Doing math in the afternoon, when one is tired, makes for a challenge for some!! No need to mention names, but there once again was tears :-((. I do so wish that my children would love math as much as I do, but they just don't...they do have their father's genes where math is concerned. Who knows...maybe some of them will become artists?!? Perhaps I will show you some of their pictures from their drawing journals? Would you like that? Well...maybe tomorrow, after we are done with school and our favorite Amish market, I will try to post some pictures of my children's own art :-)). Hugs and kisses to you all (especially our family)!! We miss you!! And we are really missing the smell of roasting green chile in the NM air :-((. Some things you just can get anywhere but at home!!

Another Rembrandt...this one of a windmill.

Famous story from the Bible...Daniel in the lions den...not sure of the artist :-)). I liked it for all of the lions!!

This one was really pretty...Jesus calming the Sea of Galilee...again, not sure of the artist?

REALLY liked this one!! It reminded me of my Miss Madeline!! This statue even had a tear falling down her cheek as she was so moved to tears from the reading...something I've seen my firstborn do many a time :-))

This one Luke and Lila actually liked...David (with his harp) after he slew Goliath. Luke especially liked the fact that the sculptor had actually put a dent in Goliath's forehead where the rock had struck him..."that's cool, Mom!!"

Not only did Degas paint ballerinas, he also sculpted them. This one was of clay...it was really beautiful!!

"The Thinker" by Rodin...John and I have actually seen the original one in Paris, so this brought back some memories!

Kids would probably say that this was their favorite part of their day...feeding the birds their lunch! Some even ate from their hands! We were literally "surrounded" by tons of all kinds of birds!! It was pretty cool :-))

National Zoo

Look at those crazy animals!!
Monday was our day at the zoo...lots of animals, over two thousand we were told, and a hot, humid day made for a really nice day for our family outing!! Here are just a few picture of some of the cool creatures we saw :-)).

Panda

These guys were soooooo cute!! They are a golden-lion tamarin

I named this meerkat "Poser" because he stood and posed for several minutes making sure than everyone got his best picture...he was quite proud of himself!!

Paige's favorite animal...this guy was over 400 pounds!!

Somedays this is how I feel at the end of my days...happy, fat and lazy!!

This is how I wish I looked...sleek, strong and powerful!!

Lion King!!
