Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore

Yesterday was a full day of sight-seeing in South Dakota and the "must sees" were Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. I was so excited to see Mt. Rushmore that I thought Crazy Horse was going to be mediocre at best...but boy, was I mistaken!! Crazy Horse was splendid!! It is a daily, hourly work in progress and we got to witness the dynamite blast for that week. Apparently it was a "small" one...it only generated 300 tons of rubble!! Construction of this monument began 1948 by a Polish gentleman named Krozack...who looked EXACTLY like my mountain-man brother Mike!! His vision, talent and dedication were like nothing I have ever seen!! And this vision was shared by his wife and ten children, who now oversee the project, as Krozack died in the 1980's. This project is a private, non-profit endeavour and the family has even turned down governmental grants of millions to keep it a free-enterprise, non-government involved, project. It is a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE commitment and this family is beyond devoted to see it to it's completion. When it is all finished, it will be sooooo big that the entire expance of Mt. Rushmore will fill just the "hair" of the Indian Crazy Horse on his steed pointing out to the land beyond. At the rate they are going, my children MIGHT get to see it finished!? Mount Rushmore was everything I had hoped it would be!! It was awe-inspiring and magnificent to see the four President's busts carved in the Black Hill granite mountain with such precision and detail. The dream and giftedness of mankind can accomplish so much if we dream big and work at it will all our might!! We took the hand-held audio tour throughout the national park and enjoyed every part of it! The Lord even provided a day with wonderful cloud cover so that we didn't swelter in the South Dakota summer heat. Our full day of sightseeing did call for ice-cream which we enjoyed as we sat taking in one last look at the grandure of Mt. Rushmore! It was a most excellent day...even a touch of rain lulled us to sweet sleep :-)). I am so fortunate to live in the country that I live in and live the life I live. My life is enchanted! Hugs and kisses to all...and sweet dreams, Lioness.
