Big Apple...Here We Come!!

On the boat, getting ready to leave
We arrived in New York state on Tuesday this week, after the Labor Day holiday and parked our RV at Floyd Bennett Field Campground, in Brooklyn, NY....the ONLY camping at all, close to New York City. Boy, was this an adventure!! We took a wrong exit (do not try this at home!! especially if you will wind up in downtown Brooklyn with a 45 plus long vehicle/toy hauler on super crowded, one way streets with overpasses that were 12'4" when your rig needs 13'6" of clearance!!). Only by the Lord's favor did we make it to our campground, after we called, in a panic no less, and got directions from the nice man at the visitor center of the National Park on how to get there safely. That was one adventure I NEVER want to do again!! This "campground" is an abandoned airport that has been "refurbished" and offers six (that's right...6) campsites on the concrete parking lot outside one of the old hangers. No hookups, no grass, no trees, no people, no nothing except empty parking lot, at a cheap price...it was just what we needed while we spend our week in the big city!! Just a side note...this is the absolute PERFECT place to learn to drive, so when we get back on Sunday...I think Madeline, Paige and maybe even Luke will get their first driving lessons from dad in this vast empty airport complex that has nothing and nobody around!! So, we left our camper and truck there, packed our collapsible duffle bags, caught the bus and subway and landed in Times Square on Wednesday afternoon, ready to start our NY adventures with Nana and Grandpa Lionbarger. Our first stop was a boat ride around the entire island of Manhatten on Thursday morning (today). Tonight is a Broadway show, Mary Poppins, and an evening in Times Square so we can see the night life of NYC and maybe finds some famous NY cheesecake!! Here are just a few of the great sights we saw as we floated around the island!! The weather was perfect...a bit cloudy so the pictures are a tad dark, but at least we weren't getting roasted by the sun and the humidity!! This was certainly a relaxing way to see many of the great sights of New York...highly recommend it :-))

Close to Ground Zero. This is the new building being built to replace the Twin Towers.

More NY skyline

Between the two buildings under construction was where the Twin Towers would have stood :-((

Our Lady of Liberty!

Really cool picture...a plane flew by the Statue with the American flag, just as I was taking the picture!!

We saw about 12 bridges on this trip which connected all of the islands and mainland together...this one is the Brooklyn Bridge
